Diabetes Signs And Symptoms

Diabetes is a condition that causes imbalances in the blood sugar level. Insulin is responsible for controlling the blood sugar levels and it will be normal or abnormal in others. Diabetes is mainly a genetic disease. However, some cases are influenced by environmental factors. People with hormonal problems are prone to type 1 diabetes. There are three types of diabetes, namely type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and the gestational diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body becomes unable to produce insulin. To balance the blood sugar, people must therefore undertake insulin injections. Type 2 diabetes comes about as a result of the body developing an insulin resistance. Most of the time, the body also suffers a deficiency in insulin production.

Gestational diabetes is common among the expectant mothers and disappears after the baby is born. Type 2 diabetes is the most common of the three and it can either be genetically or environmentally influenced. If not detected early, diabetes can be detrimental to people’s health and it is therefore important to know the diabetes signs and symptoms. These will depend on the type of diabetes people have as well as an individual’s health status. Type 1 and type 2 diabetes may be characterized by excessive thirst, fatigue, excessive urination, blurred vision, weakness, and unexplained weight loss. Type 2 diabetes may be hard to recognize since its signs and symptoms take long to register. Type 1 diabetes on the other hand develops fast and this makes it easy to tell the diabetes signs and symptoms that characterize this condition.

Further signs and symptoms will include skin rashes that take long to heal as well as other skin infections. Urinary tract infections are common with many people too as well as Candida, a dry and itchy skin is among the diabetes signs and symptoms. Skin ulcers, skin boils, and flaky skin are also signs and symptoms of diabetes. People with diabetes may also experience foot tingling, foot numbness and peripheral neuropathy. Sexual problems are common in many people exhibiting the diabetes signs and symptoms. Unusual vaginal dryness is also an indication that people have diabetes. Diabetes signs and symptoms will also include erectile failure in men and premature menopause in women. Women who have diabetes will also suffer missed periods and drowsiness.

It is difficult for people with diabetes to heal wounds inflicted by injuries or surgery as well as other minor infections. Malaise, hand tingling and numbness are further diabetes signs and symptoms. As diabetes progresses, more adverse signs, and symptoms are witnessed. These include tiredness, bed-wetting in children, and dehydration due to excessive urination, excessive hunger, severe blurred vision, muscle aches, and irritability. Other symptoms of diabetes include frequent headaches, muscle weakness, acne, as well as fungal infections that are persistent. Severe complications such as the Hyperglycemic hyperosmolar nonketotic syndrome (HHNS) develop later. The Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is another life threatening complications that is caused by diabetes. Its diabetic signs and symptoms include nausea, rapid pulse, vomiting, breathing difficulties, abdominal pain, and a rapid pulse.
