Causes Of Snoring

Snoring is a common problem with many people and each person can admit to snoring even if it happens occasionally. It is very disturbing to those who have to bear the noisy night while their partner is lost in this curious problem. According to research, men make up a huge percentage of those who snore and it gets worse if they are overweight. It is important to understand the causes of snoring early enough to be able to nip it at the bud. The basic cause of snoring is a narrowed passageway that limits the air that is inhaled and exhaled. This passageway connects the nose to the throat and it narrows down at night when people are more relaxed.

This makes them unable to accommodate the airflow, which tends to be faster and as it collides against the walls of the palate, vibrations, otherwise known as snoring are produced. Consumption of alcohol and drugs is directly linked to snoring as these substances allow for relaxing and thus narrowing the passageways. Other causes of snoring are a blocked or stuffy nose resulting from sinuses or common colds. When the nose is blocked, the air passage is constricted and this results in snoring. Being overweight accounts for many snoring cases since a lot of fat accumulates in the passageways making them narrow and thus unable to allow for free breathing. The presence of large tonsils is another of the causes of snoring since they block the passageways making it difficult to breathe. People with long tongues also suffer the same fate with those with long soft plates.

Among the causes of snoring are asthmatic conditions as they constrict the passageways making it impossible to breathe freely. Smokers are also at a high risk of snoring in their sleep since the passageway gets narrower by the day. People who sleep on their backs are more likely to snore due to the pull of gravity on the tongue backwards thus blocking the passageway partly. People who overeat on given nights are bound to snore at night as well as those who rarely exercise. Taking sleeping pills is also associated with snoring as all body muscles relax making the passageways narrower. Being allergic to something may also cause people to snore when they sleep and it is important to know the allergy causes.

People with small nostrils are also bound to snore at night since they also have narrow passageways, which limit airflow. Since snoring can be detrimental to personal relationships and image, it is important to adopt some remedies, which will work towards eradicating it. A change of lifestyle is important and this will include eating less, blowing the nose to reduce stuffiness, quitting smoking, and treating colds and sinuses as they occur. Adopting a new sleeping angle will also work as well as exercising regularly. People with this problem need not take it personal since they are bound to be criticized. Those with them need to approach the issue carefully as it is sensitive. Snoring occurs unconsciously and this may make people uncomfortable.
